Signing up for Discord is a straightforward process:

Steps:

1. Visit the Discord Website: Go to Discord’s official website.
2. Click ‘Register’: You’ll find this option at the top-right corner of the page.
3. Fill in Details: Enter your email, create a username, and set a password.
4. Verify Email: Check your email for a verification link and click on it to complete the registration.
5. Download the App: While Discord can be used in a web browser, downloading the app offers a better experience.

Midjourney is an AI-powered art generator that allows you to create stunning artwork based on text prompts. As of this writing Midjourney works exclusively through Discord, although a standalone website is in the works.

Once you’re set up on Discord, the next step is to join the Midjourney Discord server.

Steps:

1. Search for Midjourney: Click the explore button on the left side of the screen. Use the search box that pops up to find the official Midjourney server.
2. Join the Server: Click on the ‘Join’ button to become a member of the Midjourney community.
3. Read the Rules: Familiarize yourself with the server rules and guidelines.

As of this writing free trials have been paused. So, if you haven’t already, you’ll need to sign up.

Steps:

1. Navigate to the Subscription Channel: There are 2 ways to get to the subscription menu. If you already already in Discord type /subscribe and follow the provided link or click here either way you will end up on the account page. Click on Manage Sub if you are not there already.

2. Read the Subscription Plans: Take a moment to read through the various subscription plans available. They often vary in terms of job limits and other features.

3. Choose Your Plan: Decide which subscription plan best suits your needs. Whether you’re a casual user or a professional artist, there’s likely a plan that’s right for you.

4. Enter Payment Details: Once you choose a plan you’ll be redirected to a secure payment gateway where you can enter your credit card details or use other payment methods like PayPal.

5. Confirm Subscription: Review your selected plan and payment details, then click on the ‘Subscribe’ button to finalize your subscription.

6. Verify Your Subscription: After successful payment, you should receive a confirmation message on Discord, as well as an email receipt. Make sure to verify that your subscription is active by running a prompt or checking your job limits (/info in Discord).

7. Cancelling Midjourney: If you should need to cancel, you can just come back to this same page and look under the Billing and Payment section there will be a “Cancel Plan” button.

Finally! Now that you’re a part of the Midjourney community, you can start creating art.

Steps:

1. Navigate to a Newbie Channel: These channels are designed for newcomers.
2. Type Your First Prompt: Use the /imagine command followed by your text-based prompt. For example, type /imagine press enter then type your subject – a serene mountain landscape.
3. Wait for the Magic: The AI will take a few moments to generate your artwork based on the prompt.
4. Explore Variations: Once your initial artwork is generated, you’ll see buttons labeled V1, V2, V3, and V4 below it. Clicking on these buttons will generate variations of your original artwork, each with its own unique twist.
5. Upscale Your Art: Below your selected artwork, you’ll see buttons labeled U1, U2, U3, and U4. Prior to V 5 these buttons upscaled the picture. In version 5 “upscaling” simply separates that picture from the grid and unlocks additional options to modify the picture.

Try These:

1. Newbie Channels too busy?: Don’t bother scrolling to find your art! There’s an inbox in the top right corner of the Discord screen. Click to open, then click the Mentions tab. Here you will find all of the pictures you have generated (as well as anytime someone has mentioned your usertag).

2. Don’t like working in the Midjourney channels at all?: There are 2 options. You can work in private messaging with the Midjourney bot. Just message the bot directly by right clicking on its name, in any channel, and choosing message. Alternatively, you can add the Midjourney bot to your own server, more on that here. Just remember unless you have paid for stealth mode anyone can go to the Midjourney site to discover what you have made.

3. Use the Midjourney website as a resource: Take a look at the website every once in a while. Here, you can see what others have made and find inspiration visually or for your prompts.
